The upgrading works along Federal Route FT004 (Gerik–Kupang–Lunas) in Kedah is an important infrastructure project aimed at improving road conditions, enhancing safety, and supporting smoother connectivity between key towns in the region. Muhibah Konsortium Holdings is delivering traffic management throughout the construction phase.

About the route

Federal Route FT004 connects Gerik in Perak to Kupang and Lunas in Kedah — a vital link for daily commuters, logistics movement, and regional economic activities. Upgrading the route while keeping it open requires continuous, well-coordinated traffic management to minimise disruption while ensuring safety for both road users and site personnel.

Muhibah’s scope of work

Our involvement focuses on delivering safe, efficient, and well-coordinated traffic management solutions across the construction corridor:

  • Traffic management planning and execution — full TMP design, regulatory submission and on-site implementation across the active works
  • Installation of temporary traffic control devices — cones, barriers, signage and delineators per JKR specifications
  • Lane diversion and traffic flow coordination — dynamic lane management to keep both directions moving where the road profile allows
  • Deployment of Smart Sequential Light (Pi-Lit®) — for improved visibility through the work zone, day and night
  • Work zone safety compliance and monitoring — daily checks, deviation reporting and corrective action

Why this project matters

Federal road upgrades in Malaysia are technically demanding because the route stays open to live traffic throughout. Lane reductions, shoulder works and surface upgrades all need to happen without compromising road-user safety. The deployment of Pi-Lit smart-sequential lighting, which is now LLM-MOU'd, MIROS-accepted, DBKL-accepted and SIRIM-certified, gives the work zone a high-visibility safety perimeter that traditional static cones alone cannot match — particularly important at dusk, dawn and night-time operations.

Capability demonstrated

This engagement highlights Muhibah’s capability in managing traffic across active federal roads while maintaining high safety and operational standards. It joins our portfolio of long-running federal-route TMP engagements alongside the Penang Ayer Itam – Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Bypass, the JKR Central Spine Road in Gua Musang, and the PLUS Yong Peng – Senai 3rd-lane widening.
