JKR vs Highway/LLM — which specification?
Malaysian road signs fall under one of two regulatory standards:
- JKR Standard — for state roads, federal (non-expressway) roads, JKR-administered projects. This page covers Temporary JKR signs specifically.
- Highway / LLM Standard — for expressways operated by concessionaires (PLUS, LPT2, Litrak, Prolintas, KESAS, SPRINT). Larger reflective sheets, different typography, LLM-approved. See our Temporary Highway / LLM Signage page.
If your project is governed by JKR (typical for state-level works), you need Temporary JKR signs. If you're working on a PLUS, KESAS or similar expressway, you need Temporary Highway/LLM signs. The TMP (Traffic Management Plan) or contract will specify — if unclear, WhatsApp us your project details before ordering.
Temporary vs Permanent JKR signs — what's the difference?
Temporary signs (T-series) are used for work zones, road closures, detours, events and emergency works. Designed for mobilisation and demobilisation: typically portable, with weighted stands or driven mounts, and Class 1 or Class 2 reflective sheeting.
Permanent signs (TS-series and regulatory/directional) are installed for long-term road use — directional signs, regulatory signs (Keep Left, Give Way), warning signs, etc. Different mounting hardware, often higher reflective grade, longer service life. See our Permanent JKR Signage page.
Bilingual (English / Bahasa Malaysia) signage
JKR specification requires Malay text on most regulatory and warning signs, and frequently bilingual (BM/English) on projects serving non-Malay contractors and international travellers. Muhibah manufactures bilingual signs on request — common BM text includes "Kerjasama anda amat dihargai" (your cooperation is appreciated), "Harap maaf kesulitan amat dikesali" (we apologize for the inconvenience), "Lencongan" (detour), "Awas" (caution), "Ikut kiri" (keep left). Bilingual copy is typically included on apologetic (T.22), detour (T.12) and project-information signs.
