Worker Safety

High-Visibility Safety Equipment for Road Workers in Malaysia

Class 2 and Class 3 hi-vis vests, hard hats, baton lights, head torches and reflective tape — DOSH-compliant PPE for site teams working on or near live traffic.

Why this matters

The cheapest piece of safety kit, and the most often overlooked

A hi-vis vest costs less than a packed lunch. Replacing one when it\'s faded costs even less. Yet faded vests are one of the most common items on Malaysian DOSH non-conformance reports for road work projects — and arguably the easiest thing to fix on any site. The reason is usually procurement, not safety culture: the original purchase happened a year ago, no one has the line item for replacements, and the foreman hasn\'t flagged it because the team is "still wearing them".

Treat hi-vis as a consumable, not a one-time spend. A site of 20 workers should budget for roughly two vest cycles a year. Hard hats last longer (replace every 2 years or immediately after impact). Baton lights and head torches need fresh batteries weekly on night-shift sites. None of this is expensive; it\'s just easy to forget.

Class 2 hi-vis vests

Daytime road work, lower-speed roads, general site visibility. Fluorescent yellow or orange background with retroreflective banding.

Class 3 hi-vis vests & jackets

Night work, high-speed roads (federal, highway), reduced-visibility conditions. Sleeved, full-area coverage with extensive reflective tape.

Hard hats & head protection

EN 397-compliant or equivalent. Standard colours per site convention; chin strap option for windy or elevated work.

Baton lights & head torches

Red/green LED batons for traffic control, head torches for hands-free night work, magnetic-base warning lights for vehicles.

Reflective tape rolls

For mobile plant, slow-moving vehicles and equipment. Class 1 and Class 2 in standard yellow, red and white. Roll form for in-house application.

Full PPE packs

Bundled vest + helmet + gloves + eye protection + boots — sized and labelled per worker, useful for new-site mobilisation.

How to order

Tell us the team size, the work environment (day / night, road class), and any site-specific colour requirements. We\'ll come back with a quote covering the standard pack plus options on Class 2 versus Class 3, and recommended replacement quantities for the project duration. Most orders ship within 5–7 working days from our Bandar Teknologi facility.

FAQ

High-Vis Safety Equipment — Common Questions

What's the difference between Class 2 and Class 3 hi-vis vests?
Class 2 — minimum 0.50 m² of fluorescent background fabric and 0.13 m² of retroreflective tape; suitable for daytime work and lower-speed roads. Class 3 — minimum 0.80 m² of fluorescent background and 0.20 m² of retroreflective tape, with sleeves; required for night-time work, high-speed roads (federal/highway), and any condition with reduced visibility. ANSI/ISEA 107 and EN ISO 20471 are the reference standards. For most Malaysian highway and night work, Class 3 is the safer default.
Is hi-vis PPE legally required for road workers in Malaysia?
Yes — under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and supporting DOSH guidelines, employers are required to provide appropriate PPE for workers exposed to vehicular traffic risk. JKR site requirements, concessionaire safety rules, and most main-contractor HSE policies enforce hi-vis vest use as a non-negotiable on any active road work zone. Failure to provide or wear hi-vis is one of the most commonly cited DOSH non-conformances on road projects.
How long does a hi-vis vest last in Malaysian conditions?
Realistically: 6–12 months of heavy outdoor use. The fluorescent background fades faster than the retroreflective tape, especially under tropical sun. The replacement test is simple — if the vest looks washed-out compared to a new one, or the tape is cracking and peeling, it's time to retire it. Don't wait for a DOSH inspector to flag it. Budget vests as a consumable, not as a one-time purchase.
What's the typical content of a road worker's PPE pack?
Standard pack: hi-vis vest (Class 2 day / Class 3 night), hard hat (compliant with EN 397 or equivalent), steel-cap safety boots, gloves, eye protection (clear or tinted depending on work), ear protection for noisy operations, and weather-appropriate add-ons (rain jacket with reflective trim, sun-cap with neck flap). For night-shift teams, add a head torch and a baton light. For confined-space or hazardous-area work, additional respiratory and atmospheric monitoring equipment may apply.
Do you supply hi-vis equipment as part of your overall scope?
Yes — we include hi-vis PPE in our combined supply packages for site contractors and TM crews. We also supply standalone PPE bundles for project owners who already have their TM contractor in place but need a reliable single source for vests, baton lights and reflective tape. Available in Class 2 and Class 3 in standard sizes; bulk discount on orders of 50+ vests.
What about reflective tape for vehicles and equipment?
Mobile plant and slow-moving vehicles operating in or near road work zones should carry contour-marking reflective tape per ECE R104 (or the equivalent MS standard). Standard colours: yellow on the sides, red/yellow chevron on the rear. We supply Class 1 and Class 2 reflective tape in roll form for in-house application by maintenance teams. Useful for low-loaders, water tankers, concrete mixers, and any plant that travels between sites at night.
